AN IRISH WEDNESDAY...

This Wednesday Lauren will be sharing with us all that happened on her mission trip to Ireland. Come find out what teens are struggling with there and what similarities there are between our culture and ours, do they face the same spiritual stumbling blocks as you.....

What a wretch...... right?

Luk 15:12-13 And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.' And he divided his property between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living.

The rebel, the villain, the bad guy in the parable right now, it's the younger son right?
He had publically humiliated his father, he had travelled into a gentile land, he had a small fortune in wasteful living.... in the eyes of the pharisees he was beyond redemption. Before Sunday night write a short paragraph that would illustrate what this son would look like in our culture. He would have been considered the worst of the worst, what would someone have to do to look like the worst of the worst to us?

Prodigal?

If I say instant __________ how would you fill in the blank. Think of 12 ways that you could finish the word instant........ for example.... Instant Messaging, Instant Mashed potatoes.... How did a desire for instant gratification impact the younger son in the verses below? How can a 'I want it all, I want it now, .... and I don't want to work for it' attitude impact our lives today?

A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, "Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me." So he divided to them his livelihood. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe faimne in the land, and he began to be in want. Luke 15:11-14

.......riotous living, prodigal living, reckless living, wild living, loose living........... different translations of the bible have various ways of translating the term prodigal living. What would prodigal living look like in our society, give this some thought before Sunday night as we dive into our second week of A Tale of Two Sons..

Just a review from Wednesday nights message with this thought in mind. When we are secure in our future it will dramatically change our today.....

Hebrews 11:24-26 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
What motivated Moses to sacrifice ease, comfort, riches and popularity to hang out with a bunch of whine bags in the middle of the desert for 40 years?

People fixed on this world rarely speak and act with courage and conviction. They will never accomplish truly great things in this life, because their lives lack the stability, substance and confident faith of a person for whom the future holds greater promise than the past and present.

A Tale of Two Sons

The bible is cutting edge, the most relevant writing in the history of creation. Come find out how a biblical story about 2 sons, their father, a lot of money, loose living, repentance, jealousy and forgiveness impacts your life today. We will spend the next 12 weeks studying this parable in detail and writing a modern day drama which we will perform for the church at the end of this study!

DON'T FORGET IT STARTS THIS SUNDAY NIGHT AT 5:30 IN THE YOUTH ROOM.

Read Luke chapter 15 this week as you prepare for Sunday night!
